I think we all didn’t see this moment coming as we all watched the 88th Academy Awards-Oscars. The 88th Academy Awards aired Sunday February 28th, 2016. I’m sure we’ve all heard about many of our favorite stars boycotting the Oscars such as Will and Jada Smith and Spike Lee, just to name a few. Even with all of that going on, nobody still didn’t see the STACEY DASH moment coming or ever thought she would even show her face on a big award show as this after everything that went down with her and her comments she made.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, she made comments about us not needing to have a BLACK HISTORY MONTH and that we need to get rid of BET and things of that nature. Crazy right? Of course everyone went crazy and started to attack her.
Stacey Dash made a huge appearance on the Oscar with a joke nobody saw coming. She left the entire audience at the Oscars “clueless”. Chris Rock introduced her as the “director of our new minority outreach program.” As quick as she walked on stage, was as quick that she was out of there. She looked at the audience and said with a huge smile on her face, “I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month!”She then disappeared into the shadows of the curtains. Check it out:
Chris Rock calls himself trying to do a joke which kind of back fired because as you hear, nobody laughed. It was a highly awkward moment in the building. But we are all wondering, what was the reasoning behind all of this and she was just against everything she just said.
She decided to give her explanation and tell us why she did what she did. She posted a blog about why she did it.
First the actress wrote about how she was talked about and bashed for voting for Mitt Romney is the 2012 election and supporting Republicans instead of Democrats. The post is below:
“I’ve spoken out about a LOT of stuff that black people try to stuff down my throat,” she wrote. “For example, I spoke out against Black History Month. ( Why should there be such a thing? Haven’t we had more than just one month’s worth of accomplishments? ).” She has also spoken out on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy saying that people should “stop complaining about white people oppressing us, we shouldn’t boycott the Oscars, and we need to support Chris Rock the host.”
She then continued on why she did the joke last night:
Which brings me to the joke. When they added ME to increase the diversity, I’m sure many black people rolled their eyes. I’m not “black enough,” they say. But guess what? I’ve heard that all my life. I would rather be a free thinking, black than a cookie cutter black who thinks – and votes – just like all my friends. Yes, I’m the actress from the South Bronx who has always dreamed of winning an Oscar. But God has a great sense of humor and this is my first encounter with one of my dreams of destiny. Bringing diversity to Hollywood… not merely because of color, but politics as well. (After all, different colors of skin is an easy kind of diversity. Ideological diversity is much harder, because it forces everyone to come face to face with actual beliefs. Hollywood needs BOTH.)
Sounds like a bunch of craziness to me. I don’t get how she can go against her own race, when we’re already at each others throat, day in, and day out. It doesn’t help too much when a big icon and celebrity like her is against us as well but that’s just my opinion.
The Oscars sure did know how to make a show memorable and worth watching. What did you all think of this moment?
