Yup you heard it right the 2014 Forest Hills Drive rapper is a married man and apparently got married very recently. This news got out when Creed director Ryan Coogler interviewed J at the live stream for #MLKNow in honor of Martin Luther King day in New York City this past Monday. Apparently Coogler spilled the beans not knowing that Cole’s marriage was supposed to stay a private matter. Coogler asked “How has getting married change you?” and later asked if that was off limits when Cole displayed a surprised response. Cole eventually responds again humorlessly agitated saying, “that was like the one thing not to do” and then plays it off saying”But it’s all good they know now” confirming the underlying truth.

J.Cole popped the question to his lady love, a wedding planner by the name of Melissa Heholt who is about the same age as him, last year after being college sweethearts for 10 years. The two met while attending college at St. John’s University In New York. This may or may not be a surprise to many because there are many pictures online of Cole with the same girl to which many didn’t pay any mind to just because there wasn’t much information out about her or Cole’s personal life for that matter. Some reports say the engagement took place back in 2010 or during the holidays in 2013 but the news officially reached other’s ears after someone using the St. John’s twitter account congratulated the two in 2014, but Cole still kept quiet neither confirming nor denying the rumor.IMG_4994

So who is Cole’s wife exactly? Well as stated before Melissa Heholt is a wedding planner with a M.S in childhood education and teaching experience and runs an event planning business called Statice Events. She loves to travel, shop, and cook as well as spending most of her time in New York and Cole’s home state of North Carolina where she gives back to the community through mentoring and public speaking.

Cole also stated his thoughts on marriage around the same time that the rumored engagement took place back in 2013,where he also confirmed that he was indeed in a committed relationship, telling Hip Hop Canada “I feel like relationships are a beautiful thing, period, But then marriage is just a relationship to me. In my experience, when you’ve been in a relationship for as long as I’ve been in one, there’s no real difference. It’s just a piece of paper that validates what was already real.” Aww beautifully put Cole!

Anyways a Big round of applause should be given for the “No Role Modelz” rapper for keeping such a huge thing private in today’s day and age unbeknownst to the public. However i’m sure we are all wondering why Cole decided to keep this private.Well it could just be that Cole has always been private with his personal life, we rarely ever hear rumors or stories about him or his love life but then again some are speculating that he did this just to appear single and relatable to his younger fans or to portray some of the things that he raps about in his music, which obviously makes females and young people more attracted to him to buy his music. Melissa Heholt on the other hand seems to be a very lowkey and down to earth person who probably doesn’t want to be attacked by Cole’s female fans or have her work be affected by being Cole’s wife or she simply doesn’t want to be in the limelight. Whatever the case may be it’s nice seeing another rapper be fully committed to one woman and I think that itself will have fans staying intrigued by Cole.
